What do you do with all the stuff?

11 December, 2011 in Uncategorized

One of the questions that has been exercising my mind recently concerns the disposal of Mother’s things… I don’t mean her clothing, jewellery, personal effects… most of that has already gone to various charity shops where it will do someone some good. Nor am I thinking about furniture because the same applies; it has either gone to charity shops or organisations who can make use of it. No, the problem items are things like china and glassware.

Mum had quite a lot of cut glass and lead crystal, some of which has been distributed around the family, which is great. But what to do with the rest? I’d assumed we’d be able to donate these things to charity shops too, but it seems not… too old… not of any interest to our customers… too heavy… too bulky…
I’m really at a loss

Dinner Service

It’s stuff like this dinner service that has me puzzled; it’s far too good to just chuck in a skip, yet no-one seems to want it…

I really wish I knew what to do… I suppose I’m being sentimental in not wanting to bin things, but it seems such a terrible waste to me somehow. Anyone got any ideas?

Answers on a postcard please…

Moving on

10 December, 2011 in Fauna, People

It’s been a couple of weeks since my dear old Mum died and I think it’s time I moved on from the grieving process and picked up my ‘public‘ persona once more… don’t you?

The last couple of weeks have been a bit of trial one way and another and I’d be telling lies if I said I wasn’t glad they were over. I’ve never been exactly fond of funerals and having to arrange and attend Mum’s hasn’t changed my perception one jot. Some people will tell you the funeral is an essential part of the grieving process… I for one am not so sure. This much I do know… Mum hated the idea of people dressing in black and spending time weeping and wailing. She loved life, she loved nature and she loved colour…somehow I think she’d have forgiven me this little tribute though.

My dear old Mum finally gave up the struggle for life at 2:00 a.m. this morning… she will be missed by everyone who knew her, but especially by those who knew her best… her family. She is at peace now, for that I am most grateful. God bless you Mum.

Happy Birthday Mum!

Stumped!

Stumped!

Today is my dear old Ma’s 94th birthday… sadly I’m completely bereft of ideas for a gift.
Thinking

I might just have to resort to some flowers I think…

We’re going out for lunch though and I suspect she’ll enjoy that far more than a box of chocolates. The down-side is, given her dementia she’ll have forgotten all about it by tea-time.
