I was up and out way before the milkman’s alarm had even gone off… my mission? To capture an Atlantic sunrise.
Driving between Corralejo and Puerto del Rosario on the east coast of Fuerteventura I found myself a likely spot and stopped the car. It was only just 5:00am and still completely dark, so I settled myself down and waited for the first signs of dawn.
Laying back I gazed heavenwards and marvelled at the brilliance and majesty of the night sky; I don’t recall seeing one so stunning since my days at sea and I easily found myself being transported back in my mind to a time before the island was populated by tourists… how wonderfully quiet it must have been then, especially since there was only the gently lapping water to break my morning silence. Staring at those stars made me wish I’d been born in a simpler world… a world less complicated by technology, strife, hunger and greed. In contrast, I also wished I’d had my Nikon with me so I could have taken images of that wonderful night sky… ah well, we can all be contrary can’t we?
The first lightening of the sky was amazing… again I wished I’d packed my ‘professional’ kit, but with the ridiculous baggage restrictions imposed by Ryan Air it simply wasn’t practical. Undeterred I waited a little longer until the great golden orb finally slipped above the horizon, then shot this:

Atlantic Sunrise
With only those gulls for company I almost felt as though I was looking out at a brand new ocean… gave a whole new meaning to the term Virgin Atlantic to me.
